What it is

What Is Dye Sublimation Printing?

Dye sublimation printing is a heat-transfer process that converts solid dye into a gas, which bonds directly into polyester fibers under heat and pressure — so the design becomes part of the fabric rather than a layer sitting on top of it. The result is a smooth, vibrant print with no surface texture that will not crack, peel, or fade over the life of the garment.

At Linushi we run dye sublimation printing services as a complete cut-and-sew operation. Your artwork is printed onto transfer paper, heat-pressed into white polyester panels edge to edge, then laser-cut and sewn into the finished piece — ideal for full-color jerseys, all-over print streetwear, and performance kit where stretch and breathability matter.

How it works

The Dye Sublimation Production Process

Artwork & Color

Files are prepped to CMYK, referenced against Pantone targets, and scaled to each garment panel so color and placement are locked before anything prints.

Sublimation Print

The design is printed in mirror onto sublimation transfer paper using wide-format printers, ready to marry to the polyester panels.

Heat Press & Cure

Paper and fabric pass through the press at roughly 200°C / 400°F. Heat and pressure turn the dye to gas and infuse it edge to edge into the fibers.

Cut, Sew & QC

Printed panels are precision-cut, hand-sewn into the finished garment, then inspected for color, alignment, and stitch quality before packing.

Capabilities

Sublimation Printing Specs & Capabilities

  • Print width — up to roughly 1.8 m roll width for true edge-to-edge, all-over panels.
  • Color — unlimited full-CMYK; gradients, photographic art, and complex patterns at no per-color cost.
  • Color matching — Pantone-referenced targets with a printed strike-off to approve before bulk.
  • Fabrics — 100% polyester and high-poly performance knits (around 65%+ poly for clean bonding).
  • Fabric weights — roughly 120–320 gsm, from lightweight micro-mesh to structured interlock.
  • Artwork files — vector AI, EPS, or PDF, or 300 DPI raster in CMYK.
  • Finish — dye infused into the fibers, so prints stay soft and resist cracking, peeling, and fading.
  • MOQ — from 30 pieces per design, scaling smoothly into large bulk runs.

Compare methods

Sublimation vs Screen Printing vs DTG

There is no single best print method — the right one depends on fabric, color count, and order size. Here is an honest read on where each fits.

SUB

Dye Sublimation

Best for polyester sportswear, all-over and photographic designs.

  • Unlimited color at no extra cost
  • Infused print — no crack, peel, or fade
  • Soft, edge-to-edge coverage
  • Needs polyester + light base only
SCR

Screen Printing

Best for simple 1–4 color designs on cotton at higher volumes.

  • Low unit cost at 24+ pieces
  • Very durable ink bond on cotton
  • Setup cost per color
  • Limited colors; sits on the surface
DTG

DTG / DTF

Best for cotton, dark garments, fine detail, and tiny runs.

  • No or low minimum order
  • Prints dark fabrics & photo detail
  • Softer hand than transfers
  • Less durable under heavy wash

FAQ

Dye Sublimation Printing FAQ

What is dye sublimation printing?

It is a heat-transfer process that turns solid dye into a gas, which bonds directly into polyester fibers under heat and pressure. The print becomes part of the fabric instead of sitting on top, so it stays soft and resists cracking, peeling, and fading.

What fabrics work with sublimation?

Sublimation works best on 100% polyester and high-poly performance fabrics (roughly 65% polyester or more) in white or light base colors. It is ideal for jerseys, leggings, compression wear, and other activewear, and is not suitable for cotton or dark garments.

Sublimation vs screen printing vs DTG — which is better?

Sublimation wins for all-over, full-color designs on polyester sportswear. Screen printing is most economical for simple, few-color designs on cotton at higher volumes. DTG and DTF suit cotton, dark garments, and very small runs. We will recommend the right method for your fabric and order size.

Can you sublimate cotton or dark garments?

No. The dye only bonds to synthetic fibers, and the inks are translucent, so light or white polyester is required. For cotton or dark fabrics we would steer you toward screen printing, DTG, or DTF instead.

What is your minimum order, and can you handle bulk?

Our minimum is 30 pieces per design, which lets you test a collection before scaling. The same setup runs straight into large wholesale and private-label production with consistent color across every batch.

What artwork files do you need?

Vector files (AI, EPS, or PDF) are ideal. High-resolution raster art at 300 DPI in CMYK also works well. The cleaner the source file, the sharper the final print.

How durable are sublimated prints?

Because the dye is fused into the fibers rather than layered on top, there is no surface to break down. The print typically outlasts the garment, holding color through repeated washing and heavy wear.

Do you ship to the USA, UK, and Europe?

Yes. We are an OEM/ODM factory in Sialkot, Pakistan, and ship worldwide, including the USA, UK, Europe, and Australia, with private-label and packaging options for retail-ready delivery.
